Krakow at the weekend

What are the best tourist attractions in Krakow? The city has a rich history, wonderful architecture and delicious cuisine. It is also home to many cultural activities that make it an interesting destination for travellers looking for excitement, even if they only stay in the city for a few days.

Attractions of Krakow – what to see in there?

The Old Town

A must-see when visiting Krakow is the Old Town. This lively, bustling area hides numerous architectural treasures and is overflowing with history; it’s an important place for culture, fuelled by an unparalleled number of cafes, restaurants, beer gardens – you explore and you relax! From Florianska Street, leading towards Wawel, there is Grodzka Street on one side and Podwale Street on the other.

Wawel Castle

Wawel is a limestone hill towering over the Old Town, which has witnessed many ups and downs of the Polish state. On its top are some of the most important buildings in Poland: The Royal Castle and the Archcathedral Basilica of St. Stanislaus and Wenceslaus. It is a must-see for every trip. Wawel is almost a symbol of our country. Being in Cracow and not seeing this place is a big mistake!

MOCAK

Museum of Contemporary Art Krakow is a place where you can find both art and literature (there is a library there), as well as other cultural events. The library holds over 10,000 books which have been donated by Polish artists and writers; there is also an archive with a projection room which hosts film nights at the museum! In addition, the library runs research projects that offer educational opportunities, such as lectures given by well-known people in various fields – there really is something for every visitor.

Salt Mines Krakow

Salt Mines Krakow is also a popular site, which is actually located in Wieliczka, outside the city. It has been used for centuries. For over 600 years people have travelled from all over the world to collect its rock salt resources. This beautiful site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mine is huge and you can only explore 2% of the underground passages. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Over 700 years of operation, 26 shafts have been carved out. Wieliczka offers endless corridors, chambers with crystals and other attractions for both children and adults.

You definitely won’t be bored if you choose Krakow for a weekend getaway. Our former capital city has plenty of attractions that are impossible to fit into two days. All indications are that after your first trip here, you will be coming back!
